Some major manufacturers Cisco, 3Com, etc. advertise that only SFP modules with their brands can be used with their equipment, but the official SFP modules are expensive. And cost is usually an important factor, or even the primary factor, when consumers buy certain goods. Using official SFP modules means you have to pay a lot more than compatible SFPs. A compatible SFP is also a standard product as long as it meets the MSA standard. Using a compatible SFP means you can save a lot without worrying about your equipment and SFP coming from different vendors.
How to Choose Compatible SFP?
There are many factors to choose compatible SFP: the connector type, such as SC, ST, or LC; the mode is single mode or multi mode; the wavelength, such as 1550nm, 1310nm, or 850nm; the speed, such as 10Gbps, 40Gbps.
How to Use It?
An optical fiber link (MMF optical fiber/SMF optical fiber) with a duplex LC connector is required to support the connection when the switch’s SFP port is contained in an optical SFP module with an optical port.
